Help Collect Signatures
1) Printing Instructions
IMPORTANT: When printing, it is absolutely vital that you print the petition “two-sided,” and NOT on two one-sided sheets. If the petition is not on a two-sided sheet it will invalidate the signatures!
If you are unable to print a two-sided petition on your home printer, please contact us. We would be happy to provide you pre-printed copies.
2) Circulator Instructions
Someone who helps collect signatures is referred to as a “circulator.” When circulating the petition it is important to ask two questions of the person who may be singing the petition:
A) Are you a registered Lynchburg City voter? (Only registered Lynchburg City voters are allowed to sign this document.)
B) Have you signed this petition with someone else already? (Because we will have multiple people collecting signatures it’s important to only capture the signer’s signature only once.)
Remember signing this petition is NOT A VOTE for the referendum. Only an indication that the voter would like to see the referendum on the next general election ballot.
3) Notary Instructions
Virginia law requires that every single circulator gets their own petition forms notarized. We are working on identifying Notary’s who would volunteer their services for free. Until then generally, your local bank branch will generally have a notary available to certify your signatures. Their fee’s may vary.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT FILL OUT THE BOTTOM “AFFIDAVIT” SECTION of the petition until you are in front of the Notary. There is an affidavit section on BOTH SIDES of the petition.
4) Returning Completed Petition Forms
Once you have a completed, AND NOTARIZED petition form please contact us and we will arrange a time to collect the completed forms and add them to the other completed documents.
